The AFSS PIPS HVM system (Public Impact Protection System) is a certified hostile vehicle mitigation barrier, designed, engineered and manufactured in the UK.

Tested and IWA 14-1:2013 certified at 900 and 300  test angles, for passenger vehicles up to 1500kg, the system is a HVM post and banner solution. It provides aesthetically pleasing protection against vehicle attacks and unauthorised vehicles for public spaces, outdoor dining areas, and queuing locations.

Designed with flexibility in mind, the PIPS HVM system can be configured with pedestrian access at selected locations.

Banners can be customised with branding, advertising, graphics or wayfinding, enabling you to combine your marketing or operational objectives with robust and practical hostile vehicle mitigation.

Installation of the PIPS HVM system

The PIPS HVM system is a semi-permanent hostile vehicle mitigation solution with shallow foundations of just 250mm. It is designed to allow removal of both the posts and banners from the foundations as required. The socketed foundation design, enables secure installation without disruption to below-ground services, enabling the PIPS HVM system can to be deployed for temporary, intermittent, long-term or permanent HVM protection needs.

Posts are located at a standard distance of 1200mm apart, with banners attached between the HVM posts to display information or advertising materials. The banners can be removed quickly and easily for maintenance, provision of new pedestrian access points, or an exchange of graphics as required.

PIPS HVM system performance

Designed to stop and immobilise a vehicle, the PIPS HVM system acts as both a visual and physical deterrent to vehicle attacks. The post and banner work together as a single unit and the system is scalable with the addition of more posts and banners to extend or reconfigure the counter terrorism protection. The ability to change banners without removing the posts means that the HVM installation can be used to generate advertising revenue.

Options – such as planters, timber facades, or green walling – are available as an alternative to banners, enabling you to select an installation that complements your individual setting and aesthetic requirements. We can even add decorative features, such as vertical flag poles or top of post finials and low-level lighting for Alfresco dining.  Talk to our team to find out more about the options available.
